TOMBS OF THE CRAFTSMEN - DEIR EL MEDINEH
During close to five centuries, the village of Deir el-Medineh sheltered the community of the craftsmen working at the royal and princes tombs, essentially during the Ramesside period.
We have dedicated a general article on the cemetery of the village in which are exposed ideas which will not be repeated with each individual tomb, but which are necessary for their understanding:
THE TOMBS OF DEIR EL-MEDINEH
AMENEMHAT TT340
The tomb of Amenemhat could be not only the most ancient tomb decorated on the site of Deir el-Medina, but actually one of the most ancient tombs decorated from the whole necropolis of the New Kingdom at Thebes.
INERKHAU TT359 AND TT299
Inerkhaou, superior of the craftsmen of Dier el-Medina had two tombs. The best known exists in the form of TT359 which still contains scenes in their original sensational colors. This tomb was integrated into a vast family group. His other tomb, TT299, is completely inaccessible.
IRYNEFER TT290
The tomb of Irynefer is one of the better preserved and of the most colourful of the tombs of the craftsmen. His theological program translates the familiarity of these men with the great royal funeral compositions of which they are inspired.
NAKHTAMON TT335
A very nice example of the "monochrome" style of Deir el-Medineh. The lower vault consists of three chambers. Its state of preservation is remarkable. The burial chamber, almost intact, is one of the jewels of the necropolis.
PASHED TT3
The vault of Pashed is very well-preserved, and possess very rich decoration. It summarises the awaited future of eternity even in this triumphant 19th Dynasty. One finds in this craftsman's tomb a veritable small theological treatise.
SENNEDJEM TT1
The tomb of Sennedjem is the most reproduced of the works of art of all Egyptian tombs. It doesn't only result from the incredible freshness of its colours, but also from the theological interest of the evocative scenes.
THE SCRIBE RAMOSE & HIS THREE TOMBS : TT7 - TT212 - TT250
Ramose was an outstanding character, one of the best-known of Deir el-Medineh. He left more than a hundred monuments, he is present in the tombs of at least four other people and succeeded in creating three burial complexes.
